A God of Therapy

In my life I have always had difficulty finding peace and comfort when in a difficult season of life. It is so easy for people to turn to their desires. Many people fall back to drugs, alcohol, sex, porn, and even things like video games, or binge watching tv all day, anything to escape a situation they are in. But none of those things will ever solve a problem. However there is hope, there is healing, there is peace and love, there is comfort during a difficult time in life. That is through our lord and savior, Jesus Christ.

I’ll tell you an experience I had a few weeks ago while praying for a man in Phoenix. Before I went, I prayed asking God that if there was anyone he wanted me to meet that he would guide me toward them and let us cross paths. While praying this I was intending that God show me someone I can help and make an impact on. However, that was not his only plan. So as I went out I was hoping that I would meet this person, and sure enough the 2nd person I stopped by was him. I don't want to get into the details, but this man was stuck in a loop of sin of sorts. After about 30 min of conversation and us talking about scripture, I prayed with him before he had to go. Throughout the entire day this man's story and our interaction resonated through my head. I couldn’t stop thinking about it because his story was bringing up a past trauma in me I never dealt with. It was crazy. Later that day I was praying and asking God why he wanted me to meet this man because it was bringing up my past emotions I shoved down and never delt with. But this is a prime example of how awesome God is. In that moment of prayer and reflection I realized that God wanted me to meet that man because I have never begun to heal and was never at peace with what happened to me. It is crazy to me still that through helping this man the Lord would be working on me.

When you become a Christian all the things in your life that you do that go against God you will be convicted of by the Holy Spirit. In the bible Jesus talks about being born again. He literally means a metamorphosis from living of the world to living in his light. To me it is literally therapy and maybe it seems daunting to new believers but it is such a gift. It is the greatest gift ever given to us. Jesus Christ is the best thing that could ever happen to you. Jesus is the greatest gift because he takes all our burdens and all the weight were carrying and holds it for us.

Jesus loves us so much he takes on all our anxiety and fears (1 Peter 5:7). There's nothing that will ever make him tell you “nah man you're on your own”. Jesus died for us on the cross so that we can be saved. He gave up everything so that he could provide us with everything we need. When we feel overwhelmed in life he can give us peace and clarity. When we feel alone and scared he shows us love. All you have to do is cast it on him, because Jesus is our greatest gift and through him we can do anything.

I hope and pray that if you don’t know or aren’t sure about Jesus that you take a step today toward him. Reach out to a church or maybe someone you know who is a believer in Jesus and just ask them. “Hey, what's with this Jesus guy? I'm interested in him.” I promise it will CHANGE YOUR LIFE
